The arbitration scene in Australia continues to develop apace, both in terms of the jurisprudence and the recognition of Australia as a seat and venue for international arbitration. Recent decisions from the High Court in Tesseract and CBI Constructors demonstrate the importance of arbitration in Australia.

The Hon James Allsop AC, during his judicial career as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia, President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal, and Chief Justice of the Federal Court, has played a leading role in the development of arbitral jurisprudence in Australia.

Prof Doug Jones AO, after a career leading one of the most significant infrastructure practices in Australia and the region, has played a significant role in the development of international arbitration in Australia, including during his Presidency of ACICA, and as Global President of the Ciarb, and Chair of the Global Ciarb Centenary.

Both James and Doug practice domestically and internationally as arbitrators and are International Judges of the Singapore International Commercial Court.

The discussion was moderated by Damian Sturzaker, Treasurer of Ciarb Australia, Partner of Marque Lawyers and Visiting Professorial Fellow at UNSW.

This event is intended to discuss the state of play with arbitration, both domestically and internationally, and identify some interesting developments, and possible challenges in the way ahead.
