International arbitration in Australia continues to be a source of procedural innovation because of adaptations made by parties, arbitrators and arbitral intuitions and the decisions of Australian Courts.
Two of Australia’s most distinguished legal minds will examine key trends and recent decisions including hearing procedure in a post-pandemic world and issues arising in multi-party proceedings following the recent decision of the High Court of Australia in Tesseract International Pty Ltd v Pascale Construction Pty Ltd [2024] HCA 24.
The Hon Susan Crennan AC KC was appointed to the High Court of Australia in November 2005. Whilst a Barrister, she became President of the Victorian Bar Council, President of the Australian Bar Association and a Commissioner for Human Rights. She has been admitted as a barrister at King’s Inns Dublin and appointed as a Master of the Bench (Hon) of Gray’s Inn, London. Since 2015, she has been engaged in private dispute resolution, including local and international arbitrations.
Allan Myers AC KC During a career spanning 54 years, Allan has built a broad commercial practice. He has appeared in many large and complex matters in Australia and internationally, including in hundreds of appeals in all jurisdictions in Australia including the High Court of Australia. He has appeared in arbitrations both in Australia and abroad, and also acts as arbitrator in many Australian and international arbitrations.
The discussion will be moderated by Leah Ratcliff, Lead Counsel, Dispute Resolution, Santos Ltd
