Since the March Update, there is plenty to report.

Next week I’m looking forward to attending a meeting of CIArb APAC regional chairs, on the sidelines of Singapore Convention Week. Don Macintyre (CIArb CEO) and Cesar Pereira (CIArb Global President) will also be attending. It will be an important opportunity to take a sounding on developments in our region and look for ways our Branches can work together.

Last week I was privileged to attend the 2026 Masterclass produced and delivered by esteemed professors Doug Jones AO and Janet Walker CM.

We were honoured also to hear from the Hon Justice David Hammerschlag of the Supreme Court of NSW deliver the after-dinner address.

I was teaching the Introduction to International Arbitration course in May hosted by Pinsent Masons followed by the CPD event Avoiding Detours and Procedural Roadblocks in Arbitration, which is a perfect segue in promoting the Introduction course which will be held in Brisbane for the first time for several years. It will be held on 16 September   followed by the must attend event Best Practice in Managing Expert Evidence in International Arbitration. 

To our younger members, don’t forget to enter our 2026 Essay Writing Competition prepared by Councillor, Angelina Gomez, whose topic is very timely.
